anyone make fractionals out of 5/16 chain?

I am really interested in doing this but I am having trouble locating a carabiner that weighs 1 ounce and is about a buck each. I found a 3" carabiner at my local home depot but I am positive that it weighs a lot more than a single ounce. If anyone knows what size carabiner to get and where to get it I would greatly appreciate it.
