So I tell myself.

I love blood, guts, gore, and people. I hope to make it a lifelong affair. With your knowledge of anatomy, muscle-y type things, and injuries I'm sure you could do quite well. Any interest there?

Re: The Erin Experiment

I was thinking about it. Basically I gotta figure out what I wanna do this semester.

If you have any life changing advice, feel free to give me some, haha.

Nice smilie usage, Jesse. Was thinking about skiing and sushi the other day. Very good things to think about.

THURSDAY, January 24, 2008, 2-a-day @ 7pm, before dinner:

Burgener Warmup x 4

including the following w/ 45# x 5:

Jumped Shrugs
Snatch Grip High Pulls
Hang Snatch
Jumps in OH Press Position
Clean Drops

First time I have ever been able to snatch a BB. Have just always been so afraid to get the weight any farther than a high pull. First couple tries I kept switching to a front squat grip at the last second. And then, I just saw it in my head and did it. Was so excited I had to do at least a few more rounds. Foot work was much better than it has ever been. Landing felt so solid. Focus was good. I can definitely see (more than ever) how the oly lifts carry over to produce a more efficient tennis game.

FR before bed, lots of sleep last night + stupid smile on my face.

Doing WOD post 5pm today and will probably include Burgener W/up in regular W/up too. Very psyched to clean. Quads pretty sore (probably more from tabata squats than anything else, I think). Back (thankfully) completely recovered.

Run 400 meters
Rest 2 minutes

In Vibram Five Fingers (got over the ankle thing pretty quickly, I guess), @ 2% Incline, Walked @ 3.0mph during 2 minute intervals, and used 0.25 miles for 400 meters.

1) 1:37 (ambitious.)
2) 2:27 ("There are 2 more rounds?")
3) 2:50 (ugh.)
4) 2:44 (sad.)
Don't be too hard on yourself. Plus you did it on an incline.

Hah, actually taking microbiology and anat & phys I this semester. Working part time in a PT clinic and do some volunteer work at a hospital. Dunno if I have time for much else on top of working out, but it's all good.

As for oly lifts really focus on your technique. It would be a great idea (again) to get a vid up in the digital coaching forum so that you can be rest assured you're doing them right (if you don't have someone who knows what they're doing coaching you that is).

Re: The Erin Experiment

Go get 'em girl!! Sounds like you're in breakthrough territory, esp with the snatches.

Re: The Erin Experiment

Friday, January 25, 2008, 7pm, ate at 10am and 2pm: “Nasty Girls”

3 rounds for time of:

50 Squats
7 Muscle-Ups ( {4 jumped negatives + 4 BW dips*}= 1 MU )
10 135# Hang Power Cleans (subbed 65# first round, 75# for first 6 reps for second round, 65# for last 4 reps and third round)

*Second round subbed dips off bench with feet propped up (because some guy interrupted me- I swear in that moment it felt very logical to see myself throwing something at him, but I didn’t). First and third round had to get creative because (of course) there’s no place to do dips in the basement of my gym where all the weights are. Found that I could use two bars off the side of a hack squat machine to do dips at an angle like this: ^ . Tried to feel out if this was worse or better for my shoulders. Still have no idea.

Crying (no really, CRYING- origin to insertion of my quads is just shot!) for 5 minutes on a foam roller.
Dynamic Mobility w/up for extra reps
Burgener Warmup (painful, but still pretty solid. I <3 SNATCHING.)

1st round: 9 min.
2nd round: 13 min.
3rd round: 11 min.

Total time of: 33 min.

I watched the “Nasty Girls” video prior to doing this. 13 minutes as rx’d is absolutely insane. Annie is my hero.

As a result I didn’t feel bad that this was pretty intense for me as well. No ipod and, for some strange reason, no lifting music on downstairs. SO it was just me, the clinking hum of the fluorescent lights, and my wee slip of paper. Gotta say, silence doesn’t keep you encouraged, but it does keep you focused.

Got 40 consecutive squats in the first round (felt like a big deal at the time). Pullups and dips were all unbroken. Felt an odd pull in right arm late in second round of pullups. Most of the hpc were in sets of 5 (75=3+3 and the last round I cleaned 65# 7x). Third round was ugly (i.e. basement was empty at that point and I did not care if anyone heard me upstairs…or if I broke my wrists cleaning.) Got so thirsty afterward I guzzled nearly a liter of water and then thought I’d uh, yeah…

What really cracks me up is that I went into this thinking I was going to at least do the cleans as rx’d. Ha! I kill me! Next time: 75# cleans, better times, and light band assisted pullups.

This was fun. I’m doing stuff like this on a Friday night and officially addicted.
