Re: Schwin Airdyne bike

Our gym has a Airdyne challenge on the board -- 8 tabata rounds for calories.

I got 111 and was wrecked. No one has beaten that yet, but I think that is just because anyone who has tried it knows how much it hurts.

It is just as bad as a sub 7 min 2k on the rower. You know you can do it, and maybe even go faster, but you also know how much suffering is involved... (My 2k time is 7.07, and I know I can do better, but I also know what that will feel like...)

I disagree...the Airdyne is far worse. At least with the rower you get a short recovery on each stroke. The Airdyne is all suck, all the time.

Yes, I think you're correct -- but on the Tabata's at least there is that short window of "recovery" where you get to mull over A) quitting; and B) how much more pain is ahead...

It's been done several times. No way could I get it done, but to anyone that can, my hats off to you!!

Thanks for the link, I find it pretty unbelievable. Nice to know what's possible. I wonder if Chris Spealler has managed this feat? I understand he was a monster on the airdyne in his earlier wrestling days. Wouldn't be surprised.

Re: Schwin Airdyne bike

Just did a cold start(no warmup) Tabata airdyne when I woke up to see how bad it hurt. Ouch.

96 cal. I took one middle interval at a pretty slow pace. I would recommend warming up.

Re: Schwin Airdyne bike

Rob MacDonald at gymjones
402 calories in 10min of Airdyne. Now that is insane.

My 1st attempt was just under 200 cals and I was ruined for 5mins (literally. Didn't move, talk, drink, help, put anything away, useless)

I have both the rower and a new Airdyne. They are different beasts but for the most part, I will now take the rower, at any intensity and any length, any day of the week instead of the Airdyne. There is no comparison to me (in difficulty, not effectiveness)

Talk about beast mode. GJ needs to make a shirt for people who can complete this challenge and post a video on youtube of it.
