Just finished Good Calories, Bad Calories

I think it took me about six months. I have a bad habit of reading many books simultaneously so books that require some "trudging" will fall behind. And make no mistake, this is a dense book. Once I hit the obesity section, though, it sped up quite a bit since that is really the section I was concerned with initially. That and trying to run an affiliate make for short reading stints...so it took me a while.

Some of the stuff in the book wouldn't surprise crossfit people, but both the breadth and depth of the information is staggering. Other connections (fertility for example, the concept of a "balanced" diet and where that came from as another) might be new to people (and there are others too).

I don't know what kind of recognition Taubes is getting but I hope he makes enough to live a comfortable life because this book is brilliant (and desperately needed), IMHO.

Highly recommended (and now out in paperback for about $15 or so).

I'm on the opposite side. I just started mine. But I did see his hour long presentation on the book on google video. That was absolutely fascinating. Even after an hour of video, I still wanted more.

I saw that too...I almost wish he'd do a video series since I fear many people won't go through the book.

But it'd probably lose money.

I was furious within the first 50 pages. It went downhill from there.

Re: Just finished Good Calories, Bad Calories

I'm in the same boat as you, Howard. I read too many books at once (now I am reading Good Calories, Bad Calories, a book called "Milk", a book called "Beef", "The life of Pi", and a dog training book). I also run an affiliate and work a part-time job. I think I'll head upstairs and get to work on Taubes' book right now.

Thanks for the motivation.

I'm trying to chug through that book right now. I think I'm on the 6 month plan to finish it as well.

Sure:

http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...41487661765149

(wfs but for some medical pictures of naked subjects in b/w)

But it in no way covers what's in the scope of the book (particularly the disease stuff).

Re: Just finished Good Calories, Bad Calories

I highly recommend both. But the book just contains so much information that it is mind-boggling.

Re: Just finished Good Calories, Bad Calories

The Book was a confirmation of sorts for me. It backed up supposed "controversial diets," such as Atkins and The Zone; and everything I was picking up through Crossfit. It showed me why I was personally plateauing on the zone, and my personal cooking choices at home have become guilt free as I am losing inches eating butter and bacon wrapped sirloin.

I hope the ideas in this book get spreads to as many of the masses as possible.
