Hip Flexor

So on Tuesday morning, I did deadlifts, 75%x5x3 and 30 GHDs. Felt fine afterward. At 8 pm, I went back to our box and did some skill work, including some light OHSs and light snatches (trying to work on my O-Lift technique).

Again, felt fine, and went to bed around 10:30. At 3 am, I woke up with major left hip pain. General hip ache and serious hip flexor pain when moving my left leg. Right side was fine. I finally got up at 4, took some Advil and iced my hip flexor. I had to take Advil throughout the day Wednesday to keep the pain under control. Wednesday night, I tried foam rolling and trigger point ball therapy. It made it a little better, but I had to resort to more painkillers to sleep Wednesday night.

It's a little better today, and I've been rolling it on and off all day, but it's still pretty sore. The weird part about the whole thing is (1) it came on all of a sudden after going to bed, and (2) it only affected my left side.

Any ideas what's going on here? I thought maybe a psoas contracture on my left side. It seems unlikely that I caused any major injury, since it didn't start hurting until some 20 hours after the DLs and GHDs.

And I'm not a newbie...been CFing for a year and half, and this WOD was nothing out of the ordinary for me.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Re: Hip Flexor

It's either a tight/cramping muscle or a strain where it didn't get aggravated until you did something later.

Either way, if there's no swelling apparent you can probably use heat if it helps. Self massage too.

Most of the stuff in this will help wfs:

Re: Hip Flexor

Thanks Steve. I'll take a read of that article. It's a little improved today in that the pain is no longer radiating through the hip and down the quad. It's fairly localized now, but I'm still limping. Stairs are a *****.
