That was amazing!

There are probably a million threads like this, but....

Okay, so after several years of just doing basic weight lifting and cardio, I decided to try CrossFit. I've used the website to get ideas for different lifts, etc. But after looking around some more, decided that I really liked the whole philosophy.

Anyway, my "usual" workout was to do 1 hour weights followed by 1/2 hour light cardio 3- 4 days a week, and moderate to heavy cardio for 1/2 hour 1-2 days a week.

I'm following the WOD about a week behind for various reasons, so today I did the 5 rounds of Sumo Deads High Pulls Thrusters @95 lbs.

That (plus the warm-up) took me less than 20 minutes, though I was pretty dead by the end. But after some rest, I thought "well, let's go do 30 minutes light cardio. I usually do that after 1 hour of weights anyway. I should be able to do it just fine."

And I couldn't. It was amazing. My reserves had been completely tapped. I could barely exert myself on the treadmill, and could not get my heart rate up.

I'm sold.

Re: That was amazing!

Ivan - same thing happened to me- I've been doing CF for a couple of weeks now- after one of the first wod's I thought I'd run and easy 5k(I had just finished a half marathon the week before)- i was surprised to find I couldn't do it - I probably went .5 mile before giving it up and jumping on the CF train.

Welcome to CF! The best part is not having to do that 30 minutes of cardio--you can get in a nice workout in 15 minutes that accomplishes strength training and gets the heart rate up.
