Robb: I'll carry on the discussion of adaptogens in a new thread (it's kinda impolite to have hijacked Scott's original thread).

I actually have had much the same kinda results that Scott had . . . namely, my regular "workout" max pullups have gone down from 10 to about 7 or 8 on most days.

But, interestingly enough, today I:

-Slept a bit late (7 a.m. . . . late for me)
-Had a nice breakfast
-Did a workout that involved lots of timed runs (440s, 880s, 100s) with squat thrusts between each run, but no pulling motions
-Rested for 20 minutes driving home
-Ripped off a personal best-ever 16 chinups, strict form (previous best was 14).

So, who knew that it was still in there?

My guess is that doing chins as part of the WOD may be becoming a "pacing" experience (I may be holding back subconciously, knowing there's a lot of pain ahead). Today, I was thoroughly warmed up, pleasantly fatigued from the running, and not feeling pressured. Very pleasantly surprised.

So, Scott, try a max chin up set under optimal conditions, and see if maybe you're not right back there, or ahead, or where you've been.
