Should I stick to 3 days on smolov instead of 4?

Well after I failed to stand up a 20 lb PR on a clean I decided to start a smolov cycle right away. But as you all know we are in the open season. I don't care much for it this year but I still want to be able to hit the workouts at my best capacity. Since the smolov is 4 days a week I will always have a day before I hit the open workout. Should I just stick to 3 a week and mabye go an extra week before breaking the cycle just to have a rest day before doing the open WOD ?

Doing Smolov 3 days a week along with a weekly open workout isn't Smolov. It's "Nada Hassan's Squat Program that resembles 75% of Smolov and includes the 2015 CrossFit Open workouts"

Smolov is a pretty intense program that many people get positive results from...when done as written, while limiting any additional work. Without knowing what the CrossFit Open workouts entail, it's impossible to evaluate how doing them along with a slower paced Smolov may help you, or how doing Smolov 3x a week for 5 weeks vs. 4x a week for 4 weeks may impact the results you get from the program. It doesn't necessarily mean that it's bad, just recognize that you are experimenting and accept it.

My experience with Smolov...it worked very well at upping my squat, but it was pretty tough and when done as written I would NOT have really wanted to do any significant additional work during the base cycle, and certainly not an intense hard charging open workout.

Crossfit new England "competitors training" actually programmed smolov into its crossfit program . So you would have the smolov part and then a whole bunch of crossfit stuff along with it (conditioning, gymnastics, Olympic lifting, and all that crossfit stuff )

Smolov is pretty intense.
Most people can't handle the volume. I've seen more people quit Smokov than complete it.
It is meant to shock you and break through a plateau.
If you are stuck at a 450# squat and need to break through that plateau on your way to 500#, and you are HEALTHY, agreat athlete and have impeccable squat form, then it might be the right program for you.
If not, there are other squat programs out there that will work quite well.

This.

Too many people are not ready for this program and too many more try to do this and other stuff. It doesn't work that way.

Why do not just wait until the Open is over before starting a new cycle? It's just three weeks left.

It's because I don't care much for this year's open , it would be a waste of a whole month and because I will be starting an Olympic lifting program at an Olympic lifting club after the open so I want my squat up

Why not just work out until then and then go with their program... save you allot of time and gives you a chance to try and find a solution that works for you rather than using the elite programs of others.

If you have nothing to compare too you will never learn what works best for you.
