Total Shoulder Replacement

I had to have a prosthetic shoulder implanted in my right arm a year ago, due to severe arthritis. I'm a 39 year old male and not ready to hang up my Reebok Nano's. anyone have ideas for a good shoulder rehab program?

Re: Total Shoulder Replacement

you can go to my site orthopedicsne.com for shoulder exercises but you should contact your PT for these as well

Re: Total Shoulder Replacement

I've had 'ream and run' shoulder replacements on both shoulders. Left on Dec 1st, 2010 and the right on Aug 21st, 2012.
I followed the doc's rehab suggestions for 12 weeks and continued on my own per doc's approval. Within 7 mos following the left shoulder surgery I performed a muscle-up and was doing Rx'd WOD's. I am in my 3 month of rehab for the right and am doing well. Pull-ups with 1 1/2" band, elevated pushups. I have 180 ROM.

What exactly was the procedure you had?

Re: Total Shoulder Replacement

I am 43--and was told I need Total Shoulder replacement on my right (dominant) arm. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this surgery and if so, after rehab (say 8 months later) were you able to pick up CF again? Can you give me some specific crossfit movements you are able to do (thrusters, presses, pull ups) and not able to do?

Re: Total Shoulder Replacement

What kind of replacement are you getting? The only one that I've ever heard of that gives active people the most mobility is Frederick Matsen's "ream and run" procedure. But I hear the recovery is a long and painful one (typically a year) and works best with people who are hyper diligent about their PT.

Re: Total Shoulder Replacement

Thank You----My surgeon recommended Total shoulder replacement which would give me an artificial shoulder---Run and Ream seems to be a different option that does not have the artificial aspect and was Not presented to me. I will research that and ask the surgeons opinion...Thank you very much......

Re: Total Shoulder Replacement

Reading on the Ream and Run version---I believe (of course I will triple verify) that my glenoid is in such bad shape that it also would need to be removed---Ream and Run seems to work best when glenoid is in good shape--mine appears to be a bit of a mess....
