Ankle pain with New Shoes

Just bought a pair of merrils glove shoes and well need to get over not wearing sock thing.

The question I have is last night we ran 300M and this morning my ankles are sore. Previously I ran in running shoes with no pain. Will there be a breakin period if you will for your feet to adapt to the new style of shoes?

Anyone one else experience this?

Ease into running when you switch over to minimalist shoes--you're likely to get sore in some joints and muscles you're not used to being sore in after the first few times you wear them. Make sure your form is good and that you're not still heel-striking like you would with heavily cushioned shoes.

Re: Ankle pain with New Shoes

Exactly what Eric said, Ease into running with minimalist shoes. I still get pain occasionally from my Vibram Five Fingers and I have had them now for about 5 months. It definitely takes some getting used to. Something I did to get used to them was just wearing them as an everyday shoe for a while. Helped me out a bunch. Good Luck

A little different, but I get bad rubbing on my Achilles when wearing mine....but only when I walk in them. When running...no rubbing. Weird. For me, running in the Merrell's is much better without socks though.

Re: Ankle pain with New Shoes

I get the same ankle soreness with my vibrams every time because I don't run regularly enough. I got heel pain at first, but the heel striking fixed itself as my feet naturally stopped hurting once my heels started hurting.

I have the same shoes. Please take your time transitioning into them. I generally go barefoot for most of my activities, so adapting to them was not an issue!!!

If a 300m run isn't 'easing' into it- then nothing is going to help!

OP- are both your ankles sore? Do you have really flat feet? What surface did you run on?
I would definitely recommend a grassy surface to start off with till you get used to the new shoes.

Heel-striking? I am assuming this is when you run heel-toe? This is the way we were taught to run..... what is the proper form all toes??
