If you only had one pair of shoes...

for Crossfit, what would they be? My old trail running shoes are getting pretty sad, so I need a new pair of athletic shoes, but only have the money for one kind of shoe. I also have plantar fasciitis (had it for years, it's under control, but I'm beginning to think I'll never really get rid of it), so I don't think vibram five fingers or something with a similar lack of support will really do it for me.

I'd choose Converse Allstars, personally. Don't know if that would be good for you with your plantar fasciitis.

Going barefoot will more than likely cure the plantar fasciitis. The trick to curing many such health problems is not to coddle it, but to strengthen it. Try easing into barefoot running, then sprinting. As for the gym, you only need bare feet and olympic lifting shoes/squat shoes with a raised heel. Any front/back/overhead squat or olympic lift should be done in those.

I'd go for a flat pair of shoes. Good for everything. I personally use indoor soccer shoes, unless I have to do a longer distance run.

Asics Onitsuka Tigers.

And I'd get a pair of lifting shoes too

Tevas, hands down. I can work out and shower in them, then wear them right out.

Kim,

I would go with VFFs. I've had PF for several years. I haven't successfully run in about 2, I love to run so that's hard. I've tried the Strassbourg Sock, stretches, orthotics and cortisone shots, with the end result being "it's not as bad, but I still can't run. I've been wearing VFF KSOs to work out in exclusively for about the last month. I am starting to develop some belief that my feet will be normal again. Pain free in the morning, all that good stuff. I'm not back to running yet, but I'm getting there.

Re: If you only had one pair of shoes...

For me, this is easy. A cross-country racing flat. Very thin sole. Great for POSE, and they feel almost like being barefoot. (Although, I'd still suggest you get a pair of weightlifting shoes for OLY lifts and heavy Squats)

I prefer the Saucony Kilkennys, and use them for every WOD. I have 3 pairs, and they are the only shoes I wear anymore. (aside from heavy lifts, when I wear my Rogue Do-Wins)
