Wednesday afternoon I went to the local park for "Helen." They have a "Fit-Course" with a nice high pullup bar and some benches for situps and such. There's also a trail that's just about 400m.

While I was warming up with some pushups, squats, KB RDLs and situps, a 50-ish gent strolled into the park wearing a very nice blue suit, starched white shirt, and nice tie and carrying a briefcase. I would say he looked like a lawyer.

He set his briefcase on the end of the situp bench, folded his suit coat neatly and put it on top of the briefcase, jumped on the pullup bar and did about 8-10 very strict pullups. He did not loosen his tie. When he was done, he put his coat back on, picked up the briefcase, and walked away down the street.

That's awesome. And slightly surreal.

It was surreal. I don't think it was a CF secret handshake. He didn't say a word--a CFer would have commented on my kettlebell!

Maybe, maybe not. You didn't make a comment about what he did.

Maybe Coach needs to come up with a universal gesture to signal other CFers.

If I could do this :gunsmilie:I would!!

Any other ideas from the crowd?

I love that as well.

And I would have commented on your KB.

Good stuff.

All the best,

If he were a CFer, he'da banged out 30 kippers instead of 10 dead-hangs.

THAT is the not-so-secret handshake. :highfive:

(BTW, your story reminds me of a similar sight at our place about a year ago: http://www.crossfiteastside.com/2006...quat-suit.html.)

I have to agree that the kipping pullup is the crossfit handshake. Infact I just experienced it today.

Earlier this morning I posted, asking if any CF'ers worked out at UCLA. No responses yet. However, today my coworker and I took over a power cage so we would have some where to do our Cindy workout. About five minutes into it this guy came up to us and asked if we were "crossfit-ing". Like any good crossfitter in the middle of a workout, I didn't let my excitement over meeting a fellow crossfitter get in the way of a "for time" wod. So I dropped off of the pullup bar, said "yeah!" Then dropped down and started doing pushups.

He laughed and then remarked how he was watching these two guys going crazy, but as soon as he saw me pop out a few kippers he knew we had to be doing crossfit.

I don't think it gets any more clear cut than that.

The nice thing is that my co-worker really is only doing this with me because he's bored with his usual routine. As such, he hasn't bought into the whole kipping deal yet and squeezes by with dead-hangers, but this guy (Dan I think his name was-im real bad at names) was good enough to say how you couldn't possibly turn out high pull-up numbers required for workouts like "Fran", not to mention you get a good ab workout.

Soon enough I will have the whole of the country Crossfitting.
