olympic bar repair

hello everyone

i was wondering if there was anybody that could help me out with some information. i have an olympic bar that is in need of repair, but i'm not sure if it's possible or how to do it. specifically, the collar, i believe it's called, has come off of the threading by the sleeve.

to illustrate: -----||-------------||-----

the || is what i'm referring to.

can i repair this myself? or do i need to send it somewhere?

any info would be great! thanks in advance..

Phong

Re: olympic bar repair

Phong,

I'd contact Glenn Pendlay and see what he has to say about your bar issue.

From the equimpent listing on the home page. WFS

Re: olympic bar repair

You should attach a picture. I have an inexpensive bar where the larger portion of the sleeve unscrews from the part of the sleeve that the weights slide onto. There is a set screw that locks it down.

Or if you have a bar of higher quality where the entire sleeve is coming off the bar, you have a different problem.

If it's a cheap bar, I would hesitate to pay anyone to fix it, better to spend that money on a quality inexpensive bar (read: Pendlay)

Like I say, on my cheap bar, I just keep screwing the parts together and I only use if for deadlifts, bench, or bar only movements of higher complexity.

Phong,

Send me pics of the bar, I will be happy to tell you if I think it can be fixed or not.

Glenn
