Flooring that decreases noise: Playfall tiles: Coupon Code

After a bit of research we finally found a product that you can drop bumpers on and have good results.

The product is called Playfall Tiles, they come in 1.75" and 2.5" in thickness. They do a great job silencing bars when they fall. There is still some clanking from metal on metal with the bar and bumpers but the physical thud is greatly reduced. The tiles are 24" x 24".

We have to give credit to CrossFit Original Addicts in Paris where we first saw the tiles in use. They were under a legal firm and were getting complaints about the noise, the tiles solved their problem. We are about to open a gym in Manhattan, NY and just ordered two pallets of these from the start.

Some caveats:
-They are not suitable to lift on since they compress, you'll need to build wooden platforms up to their height
-They appear to only work on solid poured concrete floors, get a sample tile first
-We found 1.75" to work the same as 2.5"
-They are heavy, but not as heavy as stall mats

Greg,

I clicked on the link and this is what I found. Kinda pricey for me. I can get 4x6 (24 sq ft) horse stall mats at local retailers for $40....

There are a number of flooring options similar to this that are designed to absorb noise and vibration. They are thicker and typically heavier (per square foot) than horse stall mats. Within this type of mat there are different styles, qualities and features.

This style of mat is ideal for gyms that are not on the bottom floor of a building or where there are neighboring businesses that could not put up with the noise of dropping weights.

Yes, these are going to be more expensive than horse stall mats and we generally only recommend them in the situations above. I would be happy to help anyone looking for CrossFit flooring to absorb sound and vibration as well as standard horse stall mats for their box.

Dean,

Shoot me a PM with some info on flooring that abosrbs noise and vibration. I may be in terested in putting something under or on my lifting platform for this very purpose. I train in my garage and it clangs pretty good. I have been looking into options.

Thanks,

Jason

I am also interested in options other than the regular stall mats.

Hey Eric would you be able to post a few pics, I would really be interested to see this set up. I feel like a number of people could benefit from a quieter way to safely drop weights including myself

Maybe a sound engineer can chime in, the Hi-temps on the playfalls are significantly quieter than on the stall matts. I believe vibrations/deeper sounds are measured on a different dB scale than audible sounds.

wow thank you, I was not expecting a video but you have really helped. Are those the 2.5" or 1.75" you have in the video? I was expecting them to bounce all over the place, do you have attached to the ground some how?
