Squat Racks

Hey all!

Currently in my garage, I have a homemade wooden squat/bench rack. It's certainly not the best thing ever and it's starting to get a little shaky so I think it might be time to upgrade. Looking for something in an affordable price range - i.e. probably something less than $500 unless it is really worth it - and I've found a lot of different things in that range (Rogue, Rep Fitness, Again Faster, Pendlay, York, etc), but I'd like to get some opinions first.

Garage on concrete slab (duh?), ~9 ft ceiling and I'm 6'2"ish. Also wouldn't be opposed to a rack with a pullup bar if it fits.

Thanks in advance for any input!

Re: Squat Racks

i am VERY happy with the Rogue S2. it is a bit of a pain to move around even with the wheels but the versatility is awesome. i have the pull up bar and safety arms and it does everything i need it to do. the J cups are awesome as well and very easy to adjust.

Re: Squat Racks

I second the S-2. A group of my friends and I rented out a storage unit to work out in and the S-2 has been its centerpiece. Aside from my Rogue bars and competition plates, it's the best investment I've made. It's been used just about every day for the past year and still looks like new. I have no complaints at all.

Re: Squat Racks

The most space conscious way I could get 2 people using a squat rack at the same time was the Rogue R3 (WFS) right in the middle of my garage. I got it as part of thier skid deal that had all kinds of other gear I wanted/needed, so it worked out perfect.

Re: Squat Racks

I just picked picked up the 8ft. Guillotine Rack from Get Rx'd. I believe it sells for $360 and they have a video on their website demonstrating the rack. The base is 4x6 and it has an adjustable pullup bar, plate storage, j-cups, spotter arms, and dip horns. You might check it out.

Re: Squat Racks

i wouldn't worry too much about brand. look on local sites and ads - craigslist, etc - for some good deals. i have a rack i bought at D1cksSporting goods with a warranty and it is great. i do recommend you get a full cage not just a stand. you may also be able to find a local welder to make you one cheap if you ask around. i bought a rock solid one from a local guy for $100 and it is super heavy and not pretty but it is bullet proof. plus you could get the welder to make it to your height requirements.

Re: Squat Racks

I second the full cage recommendation... Even if you don't think you'll need it. Things change... Goals change... Training varies, accordingly. A full cage will do anything a squat rack/s2 will do, and a much more. Safer, too... Especially at higher weights.

Edit... Oh, and Rogue is putting out an Econ version of the R3 which will shave some dollars off the 695 price tag. It's 2x2 tubing instead of 3x2, and I think bare metal j cups.

This. I'm really happy with mine. I need to get off my lazy, broken armed *** and finish the review I'm writing.

Rogue R3 is probably the best investment I made.

Re: Squat Racks

Jeff i know youre not a fan of paying that much for the S2. If you simply want a new, name brand rack then the MDUSA is a good deal with free shipping. If you dont want a new one, then i second Andrew just look around for a used one somewhere.
