Baby Boomers

I am looking for baby boomers for our gym. Is there a good marketing idea on how to connect with this group? All the baby-boomers I have had at the gym so far have dropped out even though I created WOD just for them -a ramp up kind of thing. Email me at dan@gymriki.com Thanks.

Re: Baby Boomers

Daniel, I'm a Baby Boomer (55) & I can't give you an answer. I'm also a trainer, although not in a CF box yet. All my clients get Cf style workouts. From my perspective there is a lack of boomers doing any workout.
For myself, I'd rather not have any special WOD's. At CFX where I train, I just do the WOD as Rx'd if possible. If the weight is heavy I may need to scale but I like to see how close I can get to the younger guys & depending on the WOD & modality can be reasonably competitive with most except the firebreathers.
I think just give them the WOD & some scaling options & encourage them to improve & not just resign themselves to slowing due to age. I've been Cfing for 18 months & still getting better times, weights etc.

Hope this helps a little

Re: Baby Boomers

I thought part of the point of Crossfit was scalability? I can see using on-ramp style workouts to bring beginners along, but would feel insulted if given a "special" workout because of my age.

Not to mention, the camaraderie is part of the point of training at an affiliate. In other threads, it's been pretty strongly stated that having different people doing different workouts undermines that.

Re: Baby Boomers

I agree with Katherine. Being one of the younger boomers, I would never do a workout that was scaled because of my age. My ability yes, but not my age. This the same reason as I get older that I would not go on a senior's cruise, join a senior's club, etc., because all of these things are based on the demographic of the individual, not on the the individuals themselves.

Re: Baby Boomers

Don't be afraid to work them hard.
I just turned 59, and love the WODs, I think minimal scaling down is best.
Here's a scaled up WOD that was a blast to do

Re: Baby Boomers

I just trademarked the name 'Baby Boomer Boot camp' (state of WA)to take advantage of marketing to the HUGE BB demo.

I am 57 and I will be the trainer for the boot camp. As with all new clients, the boomers will be trained according to their level of fitness and exercises scaled as necessary.
