Starting For newcomers to the CrossFit methodology

Another New Guy

Been reading and looking through the website for 2 months before actually getting registered. CF and all that it entails looks like a perfect match for the kind of level of fitness I want to achieve.
Little about myself, 36 years old, 5'10, 179 lbs.The 179 lbs is the heaviest that I have ever been, and I believe that the weight gain has been my recent decision to become tobacco free. (Today is 2 months without a dip or a cigar)
Last Mothers Day, I took my wife into the hospital and 3 days later we found out she has Non Hodgkins lymphoma. After a 4 month stay in the hospital due to complications, 6 months of chemo and her losing her hair, she is finally ok again. One thing that her cancer caused us to do is re-evaluate how we live. We are both looking forward to our journey into being fit.
The first thing that I am going to do is start with the SS program. I have been reading a lot of posts about the "gallon of milk a day" with this program. Could someone explain the importance of the milk?

Inexpensive product for adding calories.

This w/f/s link works better with IE Browser, then Firefox. Suggest you order the book, it's a classic, many refer / read it numerous times.
