My endurance sucks, please help!

Started playing ultimate (it's fun, the endurance demands are very similar to soccer) and I'm terrible. Although I can deadlift more than most of my team mates, I'm out of breath very quickly on the field. What do I do? What kind of program do you recommend? I'd prefer to not lose too much strength while I try to improve my endurance, but my goal for the summer is to improve endurance. A friend said I should do strength training 2x week and endurance 3x week (one short intense interval session; one middle intensity session; and one long slow & steady). Is that a good template? Thanks!

Well, there is always the CrossFit Endurance program... or something like SEALFit.

Re: My endurance sucks, please help!

A few years ago, I went from doing CrossFit Football to playing rugby. I found that the one game and one or two practices a week were enough to build up a good running base.

If you dont have practice, then just run. Do your strength work, skip the metcon and go run.

Best way to get better at running is to run.

This.

Maybe you should look up the Alex Viada articles about how to combine both. I tend to trust that guy maybe a little too much, but I really think he is on to something with his hybrid training.

This this.

Viada's template has 3-4 lifting days (ME upper body/lower body, DE lower, andm if you have the juice, DE upper) and 3 running days (1 sprint intervals, 1 middle distance, 1 LSD) with 2 recovery runs. It's similar to what you suggest, but with well thought-out and tested (if not proven) protocol. Look it up online.
