Coach/anyone,

Are there any distinguishing or significant benefits one gets from doing the front squats as opposed to the back squat? If so, what might those be?

Reason I ask is do to the ease with which I can do back squats (in terms of how the load rests nicely on the shoulders, w/ little to no discomfort). If there is no significant benefits from the front squat, then I'd just assume do the back sq.

Does the front squat employ different/more secondary or stabalizing muscles?

Front squats are more quad dominant and help those with back rounding problems to maintain a proper back arch.

There are two big reasons why you need to do Front Squats. First, it's a core component for a large variety of complex moves (ie: the clean and jerk, thrusters, etc.). More importantly, Front Squats have a greater functional application than Back Squats. In most real instances where you use the muscles involved in the squat the load is going to be in front of you, not behind you.
