IMO cosuming alcohol and fitness just don't go together. however, i was kind of shocked when beers were broken out after the cert...it seems like for a community built around fitness/health it is strange that alcohol always seems to be involved with the events... to me that just doesn't make much sense. I was just wondering what others opinions on this were. thanks!
I used to never include alchohol in my diet. If I was going to drink, it was usually during a period of time where my diet was not even in my thoughts.

Nowadays I have a found a nice balance and will have a few drinks if I want and not let it be a catylyst for a poor diet.

I even include a couple of beers when trying to cut some bodyfat now too. Worked fine for me a few months ago. I was able to get very lean and my performance continued to improve along the way, and having the option to have a drink if I wanted to made me feel like I was not depriving myself (something that was always on mind when dieting to lose bodyfat before).

I think the certs have a bit of a celebration feel to them at the end and that's where the beer comes in at them.

It is true, everything in moderation (my favorite addendum to this is "even moderation")

Re: CF & alcohol??

yeah, i understand everything in moderation and i'm not condoning or trying to say that people should not drink. Everyone has the right to do what he/she chooses. I had just finihsed reading a post about people completely excluding diet soda like the black plague and it just got me thinking. I guess i was more or less wondering if there is a large % of CFers that regularly binge drink? I don't know to me it is almost like seeing that person walk out of a gym and light up a cigarette.

Thanks for all of your input!

Re: CF & alcohol??

I doubt there are alot of binge drinkers here. We had some tequila and beer at Meatfest, but I doubt anyone had more than 3 drinks.

You see people drinking beer at a cert and you wonder if Crossfitters are binge drinkers?

Moderate consumption of alcohol in a social context is not binge drinking. One does not lead to the other, and the health effects of the two are not the same.

Most people here will agree that binge drinking is unhealthy, even those who do it from time to time. Most people here will also agree that there's nothing wrong with moderate alcohol consumption, except maybe the carbs.

Between diet soda and beer, you're probably better off with the beer.

Katherine

Ahh -
I totally misunderstood the first post.
Binge drinking does happen - even among CF'ers... but it is a rarity.
Pretty amusing when it does happen though... especially when the Rockband comes out.

Well said, Katherine.
You've described my beliefs just about perfectly.

Re: CF & alcohol??

I would worry more about a bunch a CFers hanging out while drinking and you hear "Hold my beer, watch this".

Ya know CFers being competitive and all.

Re: CF & alcohol??

Wow. You went from "I don't judge people who drink" to accusing the folks having beer after the cert of being binge drinkers.

Shades of grey, dude.
