I would never spend more that $10 on a rope. The best rope I ever had was $5. Just buy a cheap speed rope that is long enough. Everything else is in the technique.

Re: Favorite Jump Rope?

I just did some tooling around on the internet looking for a speed rope to buy so I can practice double unders after doing the DU/box jump/kettlebell WOD yesterday. Today my triceps and forearms are *covered* in welts, bruises, and a even couple of gashes. I definitely look like a cutter. (wfs)

I don't know how good the rope is, but I love the links for items commonly bought with the rope, including "overtraining formula" and "foam roller." I got a laugh out of that.

Cheapo speed rope from Sport Chalet. Only $5 (keep your receipt), and when it breaks, just return it for a new one. I've probably been through four or five, but only paid for the first one.

I've got 2 of these: (WFS)

They're very nice and make it easy to do double unders.

Re: Favorite Jump Rope?

For the price, you can't beat this one from Sport Chek

It's got great weight for DUs and easily adjustable. I'm 5'10 and had to cut a fair amount off so you should be OK for length.

Re: Favorite Jump Rope?

I have had the fancy Buddy Lee with the metal handles, the Utlra speed cable rope and the old school "liquorice" jump ropes that cost about $2. My favorite by far are the liquorice cheepos. They last longer and just feel more consistent to me. Try out a bunch and go with what you like. Really though, once you get good at jumping rope you can use just about anything.
