Should my athlete go to the regional??

Hello All,
I have a situation and would like to get your thoughts. I have an athlete at my affilate that was originally signed up for the regionals next month but now it seems that she is having 2nd thoughts.

Here are some of her numbers off the top of my head...

1. Sub 6 minute 'Fran' Rx'd
2. 22 Minute 'Nancy' Rx'd
3. 17+ round 'Cindy' (Not updated in several months)
4. 100+ lb clean
5. 200# Dead
6. Sub 20 minute 'Angie'

* She can't do a full ROM HSPU yet and is on the verge of her first MU.

She is about my age (33) and is lean and is barely 5 feet tall. She CrossFit's 5 or 6 days per week and eats a good diet.

I have given her as much support as possible (I feel that I need to back off now). I feel 100% confident that she will have a good showing and will regret it if she didn't go.

One of the problems I think is that she's always checking out the videos on the mainsite and may be a bit discouraged after watching Nicole, Jolie and the like...

Basically, she doesn't feel she is prepared. My question to you is, based on her numbers and the information I provided.

Should my athlete go to the regionals??

It doesn't hurt to try. If she's going with the sole goal of 'making it', then maybe she needs to re-evaluate.
I'm going to my qualifier... sure I would love to make it to Games, but if I don't I will be happy if I give it my all and enjoy the environment and how far I have come in the time I've spent training for it.

In the end it's up to her if she wants to try. What region is she in?

Midwest...I'm talking just the numbers here and the info I've provided. I understand all of the other stuff you mentioned and it has been communicated to her clearly...

I think you'd get better feedback from other affiliates, hence post on the affiliate blog or their forum, since some/most are sending athletes and have attended in the past.

I'd imagine that participating in the regionals is a valuable experience no matter which placement an athlete ultimately achieves there. Experiencing the atmosphere by participating as an athlete probably results in less jitters next time round. So, in response to your question: "Why not?"

Bıngo. Why not? Competıtıve experıence ıs always good unless there ıs a very compellıng reason not to. If she's ıntent on gettıng competıtıve wıth CF then she should practıce competıng (ıs that an oxymoron?).

If she's looking to win or place in the top so many, than I would say based on the numbers NO.

But if she's going for experience and to know what she needs for next year then I would say YES.

Re: Should my athlete go to the regional??

I don't have a snowball's chance in Heck of qualifying, and will be overjoyed if I finish above the bottom 10%. Yet I'm going. It will be fun and educational. Why would she not go, if she has the time and money? Just tell her to look at it as a first look so she can get ready for the following year.
