Re: American's too fat for military service?

Sadly, not surprising. Where are our priorities? I could go on and on about this, and why, as a society, we have made it OK to be obese, unmotivated, and criminals. I've heard that the army has these cards that are given to recruits. When a recruit feels stressed, he shows the card, and the DI has to maintain 3 feet for 3 minutes or something. WTF is that all about? The world is not a kinder, gentler place, no matter how hard people want to make it easier.... Toughen up, Buttercup!!!!
Sorry, got on the soapbox for a second there. I'll try to stay quiet and do my burpees facing the wall.....

You're talking about stress cards, a popular military urban legend.

No sweat! I remember when stress cards first debuted, it was a dark hour for us all.

Back to the OT, I can easily believe the numbers or something pretty close. That being said, I'm pretty sure that time spent in DEP is often devoted to getting prospective recruits within body comp standards. Are there any recruiters around who can confirm or deny?

I unfortunately was a recruiter back in the 80's and I would work with the my prospects/DEP's to prepare them
Stress cards just another story

Douglas Smith of the U.S. Army Recruiting Command said 2008 data shows about three in 10 youths have an initial barrier to enlistment.
... 3/10 is not 75%... Just found that odd with this article.

SOmething else to keep in mind is that is a doctor writes it down, you have to deal with, whether or not you were treated for it or any other medical professional backed up the diagnosis.

You couple that with over protective parents that take their kid to the doctoe everytime they get the sniffles, you are going to have alot of **** to deal with if you want to enlist.

At least the U.S. military has standards that are tough to meet. The German Army is in worse shape; the Bundeswehr fitness standards are a joke.
