Looking mainly for starting knowledge and having an idea of the path you took to get to this point (obviously hard work and a desire on his part). I have young boys and focus mainly on body weight stuff and form / conditioning at this stage.

Thanks

Shawn

Shawn,

Darian has been exercising and training since he was 5 years old. I began having him do push ups, sit ups and squats when he was 5 years old. As he got a little older he began playing various sports (i.e. baseball, football, tennis, gymnastics, wrestling, martial arts and BMX racing).

Just before his 12th birthday I took him to a powerlifting meet at a local college. He was amazed at the weight these guys were lifting and was hooked. All he wanted to do was lift like the guys he saw in the meet. He said he wanted to compete in a powerlifting meet so we began his training.

We continued with his body weight exercises but also began incorporating light weights into his training. We worked only on form and technique for each movement and only increased his weight as long as his form and technique were correct.

By age 13 we began increasing the intensity and weights in his program and also started adding in the Olympic lifts and strongman movements. He caught on very fast and made quick improvements in form and technique as well as strength.

At age 14 he wanted to compete in a powerlifting meet. We spent the next 12 months preparing him and when he turned 15 he went to his first powerlifting competition. He broke 4 records during this meet and he was hooked. He then went on to break a total of 24 powerlifting records from age 15-17 in three separate powerlifting federations and three separate weight classes. He also competed in a local strongman competition at age 15 and took 7th place in the novice class. This was against grown men aging from 25-45 and weighing 220-350lbs. He only weighed in at 188 lbs. but kept up with all of them.

After his last APF meet at age 17 he wanted to take a break. He still trained but wanted to give his body a break and find a new focus. He began watching the CrossFit Games and was hooked on the strength and athleticism of the guys competing. Not to mention the winner gets $250,000.00!

For the past two years now he has been training for this competition. His goal is to compete in the 2013 CrossFit Games and win the $250,000.00. So far his training is going well and on track to get him there. We keep track of all the top competitors numbers and scores to compare against Darian's training scores. At this time he is keeping up with the top competitors.

If you're interested in seeing his old training programs or his current programs send me your email and I'll forward them to you. Good luck with your boys. Get them training young and hopefully they'll give Darian some competition in the future.

Jeremy

Awesome stuff, Jeremy. Best of luck with the continued training and pursuit of the CF Games. How about the 2016 Olympics?
