I realize that the initial answer to this question is "low body fat" and "internally extremely healthy", but is there statistical mode amongst the elite crossfitters that might compare to a "classic" body composition like this?

5'5" 160lbs
5'6" 165lbs
5'7" 170lbs
5'8" 175lbs
5'9" 180lbs
5'10" 185lbs
5'11" 190lbs
6'0" 200lbs
6'1" 210lbs
6'2" 220lbs
6'3" 230lbs
6'4" 240lbs
6'5" 250lbs

Muscle to bone ratios:
Arm size= 252% of wrist size
Calf size= 192% of ankle size
Neck Size= 79% of head size
Chest Size= 148% of pelvis size
Waist size= 86% of pelvis size
Thigh size= 175% of knee size


On a related note, does anyone know the actual stats on the "oft filmed" crew of Annie, Greg, Robb, etc?

I don't want to raise this question aesthetically, but rather in terms of fitness. In many ways a 140# Bruce Lee punching people across the room looks and works better than a 6' 200# crossfitter with great WOD numbers, but is there any weight/proportions which Crossfitters tend to approach over time?

I would think that lean crossfitters might tend to be towards the smaller less bulky measures than quoted by BB sources. I assume there is going to be quite a variation though. I have not seen any mention of looking at the aesthetic side. My feeling is that most people who are really into crossfit think of the aesthetics as a side benefit only. Function is king/queen, form(aesthetics) follows

I think Robb Wolf was working on somthing like this and lost it in a hard drive crash or some such thing. If I remember the 6'00/200lb 5-7% bodyfat thing was close to ideal, which seems to match with your chart...somthing about big enough to push or pull a decent amount of weight, but not too big for bosyweight stuff. Like Craig said, chase function and form will follow. Oh, by the way, I'm going to HQ tomorrow:happy:

Yeah, I probably found the link two years ago (when I WAS a teen... one who had yet to discover true functional fitness), and it was the quickest thing I could pull up. If I had the time, I would have whipped up a BMI scale or something as mature.

I just read this and for the first time really GOT it.

OK, I HAVE MY QUESTION ANSWERED. Perhaps it was a lapse of "functional fitness judgment" to even post the question of ideal proportions in the first place.

In case you're wondering (and for my own re-edification), I would much rather reach my goal of deadlifting 2xBW than to reach my minor goal of having an impressive appearance as a result of Crossfit.
