Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread

At first I was not too pleased with the final workout between the individuals. Then I saw what it did to the leader board and turned it exciting.. people going from 10th to 4th or something like that.

The masters final was not my cup of tea.. they kept out some of the things that separate people like HSPU, HS Walks, T2B, Pistols.. etc..

That wasn't Neal Maddox That was Elijah Muhammad "EZ". He will be a great candidate for the Spirit of the Games Award in the coming years.

I loved the sprint course. SO awesome to see the athletes blaze through it.

My thoughts on the peg board (which doesn't add up to a hill of beans): I liked it. I agree with the general consensus that PTTM 1 & 2 should've been done earlier in the competition since it was a great test of skill, just very anticlimactic to watch...

Will the games ever be held somewhere else in July? Canada, Iceland, southern hemisphere Africa, or another cooler area? Fitness doesn't have to be tested in heat, fitness can be tested indoors in an arena or in the A/C also from my understanding. Since it is an international competition I would love to see it held somewhere else soon.

Sorry, there were only a couple of us who guessed on the teams. I cannot award you any additional made up points.

You're right. My mistake. I went back and watched Neal's heats, and he didn't drop the bar.

So - only one mishap during the speed ladder then?

I'm happy Ben won. I think Rich would have schooled everyone again if he would have gone individual. I think he'd have smartly paced (gone really slow) Murph, and crushed everyone on Sunday (just like last year).

I think if Kara Webb would have employed a similar strategy, she had a legit chance of winning.

Overall though, great Games. Well done, all folks involved.

I don't remember who it was, but there was another team who only had two athletes on the back end of the tire flip chipper. They didn't make it into the final events, so they never got to the point where they wouldn't be able to post a valid score and get forced to withdraw, the way NorCal was.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching the Masters. They are a wonderful people from watching the interviews they did and I was impressed with what they could do psychically. Hats off to them!

I kind of thought that was the case, but couldn't place them, but to be fair, I was mostly only paying attention to the heats with the big names (NorCal, Mayhem, Ute, Invictus, etc.)

Speaking of teams, whether it was because of the big names (Froning, Khalipa, Hackenbruck, Fisher, etc) competing in the team events or because the events were just programmed better (probably both), I definitely had an interest in the team competition this year. In previous years I couldn't be bothered to watch them, but this year I enjoyed it almost as much as the individual competition.

The team events have always been great, though there are times when I get a little sick of the "how many ways can we use the worm?" factor. They used to be hard to watch, because they would run at the same time as some of the individual events, so you would have to either choose to watch them instead of the individuals, or take the time to go watch them in the archives, after the fact. They've started to get a lot more attention in the past few years, fueled in part by the need to compete with the NPGL, along with the fact that local events are starting to shift more toward teams than individuals.
