Sick of oatmeal, any other carb suggestions for quick Zone breakfast?

Any suggestions on where to get my carbs for a quick and easy Zone breakfast?
Mixing it up with easy to prepare proteins is not a problem (egg whites, canadian bacon, cold cuts, cottage cheese, etc) but I'm getting tired of doing the cup of oatmeal 3-4 times a week. When I have time I'll go ahead and cook up a nice breakfast quesadilla with veggies but that is too time consuming on most weekdays.
I know I can always do fruit but, I'm trying to cut down to 2-4 blocks a day because of the sugar. I also find that I get hungry much sooner when all my carb blocks come from fruit alone.

Thanks,

Diego

You don't have to eat traditional breakfast food for breakfast. Think outside the box and read Journal 21 - there are pre done meal plans in there for you.

Re: Sick of oatmeal, any other carb suggestions for quick Zone breakfast?

I actually stopped eating oatmeal because of the same reason. Have not eaten it in over a month.
I will do omlettes loaded with peppers onions mushroom and broccoli, and sun dried tomotoes. Its very tasty.

Saute the vegetables fisrt then sub the eggs on some days with canadian bacon for variety.

I have been eating alot fo fruit and found that I like it better than oatmeal. Strawberries, most melons, oranges, apples. Stick to the really zone freindly fruits and You should not see a change in progress. Remember the sugar in most fruits as long as you eat the actual fruit does not have a huge effect on insulin levels.

Toast: Ezekiel sprouted grain English muffin.
Layer on: almond or pumpkin butter, leftover chicken or turkey, sliced apple if you want sweet.

Takes about 90 seconds to make, maybe $1 or $1.50 in cost.

This may sound nasty... but... mix your eggs and oatmeal together.

In a bowl - Mix eggs and dry oats. Add cinnamon. If you want it sweeter you can add stevia (or splenda if you use it). Cover and let sit over night. In the morning, take out the bowl, mix everything one more time and make pancakes. Instead of syrup, you can spread PB.

Re: Sick of oatmeal, any other carb suggestions for quick Zone breakfast?

Thanks for the suggestions. Some interesting ideas and that's what I'm looking for. The english muffin is quick and simple and exactly what I'm looking to do. I've been staying away from all breads but a muffin or pita here and there is a good alternative. Any brand name suggestions that are Zone friendly other than David's? Hopefully Ezekiel's is available here.

Veronica, that definitely sounds interesting. Prep time is a little more than what I'm looking for but good for those days I have plenty of time.

Jaime, I've got that issue. I'm looking for alternatives. Thanks.

This sounds like the best thing ever to me for some reason. I am going to have to try this !

Do you use old fashioned thick rolled oats or steel cut oats for this? Measurements? Just a few blocks of each?

Thanks!

Who are you quoting in your signature quote? I am too embarrassed to say what comes to mind so I'm hoping you'll do it for me, if I am right that is.

Trader Joe's has some good low carb, healthy tortillas you could use, or try using quinoa (sp?) in a rice cooker. I cook it the night before and in the morning I mix in almond butter and have a glass of soy milk with it. Yum!
