Haha, thanks. I wish I was taught to Oly lift at 6 also.

She said she had fun with her front squats last night too. I didn't know a 6 year old could be quite so determined.

Re: Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger - Tamara's log

7/26/11

Squat:
4 x 60 kg
2 x 70 kg
1 x 80 kg
1 x 90 kg

Snatch:
1 x 25 kg
1 x 30 kg
1 x 35 kg
1 x 40 kg
1 x 45 kg
1 x 45 kg - This was a power snatch for sure

Clean high pull:
2 x 70 kg
2 x 70 kg
2 x 70 kg
2 x 70 kg

Squat:
4 x 60 kg
2 x 75 kg
1 x 85 kg
1 x 95 kg

Pretty sure I'm awesome.

Re: Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger - Tamara's log

7/27/11

I feel like I got run over by a truck today.

Squat:
2 x 60 kg
2 x 70 kg
1 x 75 kg
1 x 80 kg

Power snatch:
2 x 20 kg
2 x 25 kg
2 x 30 kg - Oops, this was supposed to be a single and then a double.
1 x 35 kg
2 x 35 kg

Clean high pull:
2 x 60 kg
2 x 65 kg
1 x 70 kg
1 x 70 kg

Snatch grip behind the neck push jerk:
4 x 30 kg - Okay, so I can't do these with a snatch grip. Excruciating.

Switch to behind the neck push jerk with regular jerk grip:
4 x 35 kg
4 x 40 kg
4 x 45 kg

So, in trying to solve this issue once and for all, I got the following responses:

"When you are wound up in external shoulder rotation, the rotational force on your wrists is huge. When you snatch from the ground, the shoulders start off internally rotated. You spend a lot more time in external rotation when doing behind the neck jerks."

"The snatch grip push press/jerk puts the wrists through more range of motion and compresses them at the bottom. The regular snatch just engages the wrists on the turnover and catch."

I don't know if either of these answers actually make sense, but there has to be a logical reason for it. I think the answer for now is that I just shouldn't jerk from behind the neck with a snatch grip.

Well, today was the test day to see if I could do them without pain. And the test has determined that, no, I cannot do them without pain.

Re: Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger - Tamara's log

7/28/11

Squat:
5 x 20 kg
1 x 50 kg
2 x 60 kg - Sigh. That was supposed to be a single.
1 x 65 kg
1 x 70 kg
1 x 75 kg

Snatch:
1 x 25 kg
1 x 30 kg
1 x 35 kg
1 x 40 kg
1 x 45 kg - Power snatch
1 x 47 kg - Fairly ugly power snatch

Clean high pull:
1 x 35 kg
1 x 55 kg
2 x 60 kg
1 x 65 kg
1 x 70 kg
1 x 75 kg

Squat:
2 x 60 kg
2 x 65 kg
2 x 70 kg
2 x 75 kg

I felt much better than yesterday. I wish that my snatch at 47 had been prettier, but it's not the end of the world.

She just snatched 11 kg and jerked 15 kg. She only needs a 30 total for School Age Nationals in the 35 kg weight class. She weighs 26 kg, so I think she's good.
