Ryan,

I have proof to the contrary.

I understand that eating raw meat is generally not recommended, but the potential is still there.

Many fresh young legumes are perfectly safe to eat raw straight from the pod. It's only dried legumes that need long soaking and boiling. Regardless of that though the idea that foods can only be considered "paleo" if they can be eaten raw is seriously flawed when you consider the complex processing involved in removing cyanide and other toxins from some of the roots and tubers that are staple foods to many of the worlds hunter-gatherers.

I'm pretty sure If I was a cave(woman) I'd eat whatever the hell I could get my hands on

See that's what I think too. I feel that cavepeople would eat whatever was available. I've also found research suggesting that paleolithic people did use wild grains as a food source (http://paleodiet.tribe.net/thread/ad...3-fd5649cdb9bd). And also that hunter-gatherers diets vary widely dependent on their location, with those living closer to the equator eating much more plant based foods(as much as 70% is suggested) and the amount of meat being consumed increasing the farther north or south you go(http://pcwww.liv.ac.uk/~gowlett/Gowl...E_13_03_02.pdf).

Jamie, do you ever actually eat raw beef? I've wanted to do it just hadn't had the nerve because of hearing things just like what people are saying in here.

I've had it every now and then. I don't think it's any more dangerous than sushi. I wouldn't eat raw hamburger, but carpaccio -- thin-sliced raw steak with a little olive oil -- is very tasty.

Like sushi, know your supplier and make sure it's very very fresh.
