I use rope skipping a part of my WOD. 2-3 minute intervals between rounds of other bodyweight drills.

Anyone else use the rope a dope?

Part of my warm up, everyday, leather rope. 300 turns minimum. Sometimes it flows, sometimes it's a pain, but I figure those days I probably need it more.

Yeah. I have been warming up by skipping rope about the past month. Usually about 5 minutes.

I'm a big ropper and usually sub running with rope because I hate running but I can still go out at anytime and finsih a five mile run in under 50 minutes. No world's record but I can do it at any moment.

Just curious... Do you guys use any of those specialty ropes(i.e. Buddy Lee, BOA 2000)? I just use a Harbinger speed rope.

I have a speed rope which has a wire for a rope and ball bearings in the handle.

I also sub skipping for running to protect my injured knee (ruptured ACL). I use a 1 "knees-high" skip = 2 metres run formula. Like David, some days it flows, some days I want to chuck the rope in the bin! I use a leather rope which is gradually getting shorter and shorter where it keeps snapping - an added challenge!

I have begun doing 3 1-minute sets of slow going, faster and thirdly weighted skipping in my warmup. I have a plastic beaded rope, a speed rope with a ball-bearing handle & composite rope, and a 3-pounder that throws me around the garage. I am trying to get my groove back. I used to skip for 15-30 minutes daily as part of boxing, but we're talking 25+ years ago, I feel I am a very different person from the one I used to know.

how many others have heavy ropes? I have one with weights in the handles but I've heard the thick, heavy ropes make a big difference

I dont use the heavy ropes. I found that they upset my balance and timing way too much. I can get all the CV workout I need simply by skipping faster and adding different movements to the mix.

Doing a Tabata with the rope is interesting to say the least.
