Pro Fitness League

Just read a post on FB about Tony Budding (now separated from Crossfit) who is starting the Pro Fitness League.

Anyone have any thoughs or opinions of Tony's venture and odds of it's success?

Re: Pro Fitness League

2 issues i see right up front:

Who puts up 500k with 2 months to decide, absolutely nothing to compare the investment to, and very real risk of losing every penny?

the draft: for a guaranteed $1k per year, who is going to be willing to quit their job and move across the country when they are drafted by a team that is in another city?

Here's a podcast where Tony discusses why he's doing the NPFL.

http://www.kennykane.com/tony-buddin...itness-league/ (wfs)

Highlights:
"I started to realize that I would have to move on."

"I just resigned from CrossFit three weeks ago," (stated on Dec. 19, 2013)

Tony discusses good relationship with Dave Castro. He also discusses that a fitness league is a very different business model than the seminar-affiliate model of CrossFit, and that's some of the justification for a separate venture.

"My interest in the mainstream stuff wasn't aligned with Greg's interest and where he wanted to go. Greg owns CrossFit; it's his company, his baby. He wins. I'm not fighting him. I'll discuss my ideas, but it's his company. Throughout 2013 I was becoming increasingly aware that my role in the world wouldn't be a part of CrossFit HQ."
"There were legitimate attempts on both ends for me (to stay). It didn't work out. I knew I had to leave."

I get the feeling that Tony's role in media was overshadowed as CrossFit media has grown and now includes larger interests (like ESPN). His tone throughout the interview is positive.

Re: Pro Fitness League

Im not exactly in the Tony Budding fan club, not trying to question who he is, or his intellengence but from everything I have seen from/of him he has a very positive attitude. Doubt it would be under bad terms.

Re: Pro Fitness League

The timing of their schedule is kind of odd considering that is pretty directly overlaps with the Games season (unless they aren't going to require the top level athletes to go through the "draft" process).
