Re: Where's the Girl Power?

Hi girls! So, this past weekend I ran in Bloomsday, which is a 12K race in Spokane, WA. I finished the race in 1 hour 37 minutes and 20 seconds and ran about 90% of the race!!! Last year at this time I was working on just being able to run a mile without stopping and now look at me!

Re: Where's the Girl Power?

I got TWO chins this morning.

I'm still not sure I can start from dead at the bottom, but I can lower myself to straight arms and pull back up.

Next up, mix up the grip.

Hi ladies! It's been FUHEVA since I've checked in here! (hangs head in shame)

I'm so glad to see all of you fierce ladies still kicking butt!

Lori, did you train for the 12k with anything besides Crossfit? Did you throw in anything from Crossfit Endurance?

Great job Renee! We all have to start somewhere and before you know it you'll be able to run a mile w/o stoping as if it was nothing. Keep up the great work.

I have been doing just Crossfit and then maybe run an extra 1 -2 miles a couple days a week. I have also been "cooling down" with Tabatas (or 1 min max reps) of one of the FGB movements each day. This is mostly due to a fundraiser I'm participating in this weekend. I have looked at the endurance WOD's but I just haven't mixed them in yet.

So yeah, Crossfit rocks. I'm looking at mixing in the Endurance WODs now though because I would like to try for a half marathon in the fall.

Re: Where's the Girl Power?

Ladies I am PUMPED up today! I hit pr's yesterday in both push press and back squat!

On another note...did you ladies see Lisbeth's post on the a-blog about how Crossfit can have a positive impact on our young daughters and their body image? LOVED that post! My daughter is 10, and with Mommy gearing up for the affilliate cup, we've been doing lots of strength work. She had a friend with her at our gym on Saturday, and her friend stopped dead in her tracks to watch me lift. I over heard their conversation...

"Holy cow! Your mom lifts weights!?"

my daughter: "yeah, yours doesn't?!"

sweet. I love that "normal" to her has become having a Crossfit Mommy!

Re: Where's the Girl Power?

Can you find a link to the post on this "A-Blog"??

My daughter just turned 13 and I didn't really involve her in my workouts or lifting until I went to an affiliate last year and did a CFT competition. She called it my "freak show" - in a humorous way that said she appreciated how much I like it but it really wasn't her thing.

Fast-forward to this past weekend when she asked if she could tag along to watch some of the CF Games qualifier in our town. She still thinks the heavy lifting is a freak show, but she also said she'd like to start doing a workout from the crossfit kids website with me on weekends.

She's very much like me in that she doesn't have much interest in sports, but she did say she's thinking about joining volleyball next year. We also just started archery lessons and had a blast.

I don't know if she'll ever join the freak show, but I think that by being more visible about my interests in fitness she's starting to pursue more physical interests of her own.
