Crossfit saved my car's windshield.

So I was doing the WOD last night with my wife and on my first round of pullups I FINALLY got the kip down. The pullups were so much faster and easier!

My pullup bar is bolted to the ceiling above both of our cars by an 8ft plank. I could feel it start to sway but I figured it would be ok. Nope. On my 6th kip, at the top, the whole dang thing (plank and all) came unhitched. Thankfully I landed on my feet and was able to crush grip the bar so that the plank didn't swivel and crash into our windshields. It would have taken out both of them at the same time. If it hadn't been for Crossfit and my kettlebells enhancing my forearms and grip, I would be shopping for new glass today!

I initially put that up before I found Crossfit and was working on strict pullups. Because I had never heard of a kip before, I didn't use lag bolts to attach it to the framing because I didn't think it was needed. I used 6" wood screws and sinker's. Lesson learned! I'm headed to Lowe's tonight for some lags!

Re: Crossfit saved my car's windshield.

A little pointer on the lag bolting method. Make sure to check the bolts every now and then. My bar is mounted to a 8' 2 x 6 which is lagged to at least four joist, floor support beams. Even with this I find that the lag bolt heads settle into the 2 x 6 or something and they end up slightly loose after 6 months or so. (I checked mine 1 year after I installed the bar and they were surprisingly loose!)

Nice save by the way!

ha! well either one would work i guess! it's either, "Crossfit is so hardcore because i was able to save my cars from being destroyed. i rock!"

or "Crossfit is so hardcore because i dont care about my cars as long as i get in my pullups. rawr!!"

Re: Crossfit saved my car's windshield.

Crossfit broke my windshield today.

A 3x10 PVC pipe (slosh pipe)was stuck going through the trunk / fold down seats, and smacked into the windshield. Got a nice spider pattern now.
