Have you thought of making your own? Might be less expensive than store-bought if you could buy enough bulk almonds. And then you could temper the sweetness and even throw in some other nuts to vary it. Doesn't seem too hard, but I've not done it before.

I buy Nature's Promise. The "Natural Almond Butter" not the organic. It's about 6-7 bucks a pop though, but cheap compared to the organic Nature's Promise which is $12 a pop. The single ingredient in both are Almonds. As an aside, I haven't been buying it because I'm becoming addicted, sometimes eating 3 jars a week!!

I'd recommend making your own. It's far less expensive and you know exactly what you're putting in your body. I know you can get a 3lb bag of raw almonds at Costco for about $12. That's a lot of almond butter.

Quote:
At about a pound of almonds per jar, you're at $4/jar in ingredients alone so far (using your Costco example). You'll need a pretty damn good food processor to make it with which will set you back $150 at least. So at $7/jar for store bought stuff, you'd have to make 50 jars yourself before you break even. And that doesn't even include your time to make it. I've done this process and it is not quick. I value my time and that is why I will now just buy it from Amazon. ![]() With that said, I personally buy Barney Butter crunchy in 3 packs using Amazon subscribe & save. |

Re: What almond butter brand?
I think a food processor is a decent investment if you intend to make a lot of nut butters (which I do). It's also useful for things like hummus, pureed vegetables and root vegetables, etc. But when I'm feeling lazy, I go for the Trader Joe's brand. I think it's $6.99 at my store.

Mara natha though possibly the worst for me is my favorite. I use it as a quick late night snack or a spoonful with breakfast so the added sweetness hits the spot.

Re: What almond butter brand?
Whole foods brand is about $5.99 for a 16oz jar, I enjoy their almond butter over nature promise or any other brand I have found so far.
