Finding Back Squat Max
Hey everyone!
Tomorrow we have our gym finding a 1RM Back squat. I have seen and read different ways to go about this. Does anyone have any kind of template that has helped you or your athletes going about this? The situation I have run into in the past where people get to a point where their next weight is either old 1RM or go for a new one. Usually the deal is when they go for the new one they have to big a jump. Example, a couple months ago I was going about mine. My old max was 335. I was going through my sets and long story short got to 1 x 315. I was like welllllll going to 325 makes sense, hit 315 so easy. Going to 335 is my old one but what if I do it and its hard, its going to mess with my head ya know. I went from 315 to 340, to me that's a big jump. I hit that and worked to 355. That's the same scenario I've had some of my athletes fall into. Like I said any info would be awesome. Thanks everyone ![]() |

Re: Finding Back Squat Max
When I back squatted 190kg, I went 70x1, 120x1, 150x1, 170x1, 190x1. It was my 2nd training session that day, and I back squatted 170 in the morning.

Re: Finding Back Squat Max
This seems like a fairly solid guide.
http://www.t-nation.com/training/how...-a-one-rep-max Used it last week and hit a 25 pound PR on my back squat. I like that it's pretty easily adaptable for different maxes going in. |
