What's more important?

Using yesterday's WOD as an example (Five rounds for time of: 95 pound Hang Power Snatch, 15 reps, Run 400 meters). What's more important, using the prescribed weight, but having to rest mid-rep to complete the 15 reps, or using a lighter weight and doing the 15 reps continuously without resting? Thanks!

I would say that it depends on how much you have to break up the first set or two. If you have to break the first round into more than two sets, I'd probably go for a lower weight.

If you can use the rx'd weight at high intensity, then go for it; even if you have a few breaks here and there. If you're resting for minutes at a time, and flopping to the floor in between Hang Power Snatches, then re-assess your weight, and scale. Remember, the WODs for time are supposed to be intense and fast, so scale it according to your abilities.

I would say that first concentrate on being able to do the correct form. If you can't do one hang power snatch with good form at 95lbs, you certainly shouldn't be trying to do 15. Otherwise, my general rule is that if I have to split the 15 reps into more then 3 subsets, it's too much weight. Just my personal theory.

This question has been brought up quite a few times, and it seems that the consensus is that if you can do the Rx'd weight with correct form for the allotted number of reps, then you should do so, even if you have to rest a bit. Challenging yourself is what causes the bodily adaptations that allow you to progress. Note that form > weight, always. If you've never done a hang power-snatch, then take it easy the first time, but if you feel confident in your abilities, then go for it whole hog.
