Starting For newcomers to the CrossFit methodology

It would be kinda cool to have "goals/clubs" for newbie wimps like me, since I will probably not see a muscle up for years.

I just find goals very motivating but the standard xfit goals are way out of range for me and will be for a while.

Establish a series of baseline scores for the "girls" and then set about trying to improve your scores.

If the Crossfit goals keep you at it for several years, then they have accomplished their purpose.

My personal goals as a newbie myself, are as follows:
1: Ability to do WODs as Rxed.
2: Increase times/weights of WODs.
3: Learn to snatch properly.
4: Hold a handstand for 30 seconds, then free standing HSPUs.
5: Bodyweight clean & jerk.
6: Muscle up!

The order of 4 through 6 doesn't matter really, but the first 3 seem most important to me.

I think that the CF goals provide an "ideal" that we can all work towards. It's our job to define our own short term goals to help get there. I have been writing down my goals for a while now and it really helps bring focus to my workouts.

I'd suggest the following:
1. pick both short and long term goals so you're always looking at the big picture, but can enjoy short term successes along the way
2. Use some of the benchmark workouts and set goals for improved times on them.
3. Do some tests to see where you currently stand (e.g. max push ups) and set goals as to where you want to be in various lengths of time.
4. Set goals for more than physical performance aspects of your fitness life style. For example, set a goal to not miss a workout over a certain period of time.
5. Diet goals are important, but make them specific. For example, I'm going to read Masterig the Zone by X date or within a certain period of time I want to create 3 new Zone friendly recepies that can be made in under 15 minutes.

Set the goals, keep them in constant view and get to it. :-)
