Re: Crossfit Open 2016

Regarding his DL, is it possible to hit the standard with your shoulders that far forward at the top?

If his workout were judged by video, then there would be a little TV icon next to his score. His score is validated by a judge, so nitpicking the video is useless.

The judge watched Josh's workout live from a lot closer vantage point than the video camera. That carries a lot more weight in this argument than us armchair CrossFitters watching it after the fact.

Did he deserve some "no reps"? Maybe. Do athletes in competition push the limit on meeting standards? Definitely. An athlete with big glutes (like Josh) is going to have a grey area where they may or may not have their hips locked out.

There have been incidents where the judging was so horrendous that points were deducted and affiliates excluded from competition.

If you want to win a workout, get a lenient judge that will let borderline-standard reps slide. If the reps are close enough to be arguable on the video, then you have to let the judge's call stand.
Actually if you have intentions of going to regionals you absolutely can be critiqued by video. Doesn't matter if a judge was there or not.

Edit: I just went back and read the standard. Clearly states shoulders have to be behind the bar.

Re: Crossfit Open 2016

One thing to note in defense of Josh, the camera footage looks like it was taken in "fisheye" mode (likely a GoPro). Look at Josh's posture compared to one of the rig uprights behind him. He basically gets to exactly parallel with them on his reps. We can rightfully assume that the rig uprights are indeed vertical to the ground, which would lend evidence to Josh's posture also being vertical.

Some of this (not sure how much) is certainly due to the camera angle.

Re: Crossfit Open 2016

I must say one of the positve things about this year is Noah Ohlsen posting early scores and setting the goal for everyone.

It makes things more exciting and when he removes his score and submits an even higher one must really hit people where it hurts.

It's quite boring when the elite leave everything to the final hour or so.. Noah makes it more worth while to take a peak just to see whats going on.

Re: Crossfit Open 2016

Yes the JB reps look fishy. But in some where he takes a breather at the top you see a true lock out. You would think that a better video with intro showing the weights.. etc. Seems that HQ threw a bro $2016.00 this time. You can not discount the volume and intensity. He is back and stronger than ever. Maybe he still wins the workout with a judge giving him no reps so he can clean it up.

Noah yes that is cool. Puts out a score just like Sam B and if someone breaks it they re do it and get more. These two must re do the workouts 2 or 3 times. The capacity to do that while training is sweet.

Wonder what the final workout will be.

10 min AMRAP
10 s2o 115#
15 box jump overs

exactly after 10 min starts the clock for 6 min time limit
1 rep max thruster from the ground

Re: Crossfit Open 2016

I liked that workout Plus Castro said when he was in our gym that was going to be it. Plus its a leg punisher.. jk on the Castro thing.

But with the three guys Rich, Matt and Ben will be a epic battle. Sadly s2o and box jumps, step ups or overs will not cut it.

We all might be in for a huge surprise.

500 pistols for time ha ha Scott J that one will be for you Goat man.

One thing that I do know is that I don't know much about what will be in 2016point5.

Re: Crossfit Open 2016

So on the games site, they posted "12 videos to watch before 16.5" or something. And 3 of those videos were each guy hitting a PR snatch. Coincidence?

Re: Crossfit Open 2016

My guess for 16.5 is a 10min amrap of

5 ring muscle ups
10 thrusters 95-115-135-165-185-225
15 box jump overs

Each round the thrusters increase in weight. Scaled version will not have muscle ups, just the thrusters and box jump overs.

Or it could be OHS instead of thrusters, with the same weights.

Doesn't matter what the workout is, Rich Froning is not going to let Ben Smith or Matt Fraser beat him.
