Hi Carla, thanks for the kind words. Yeah, the 300 workout is a toughie -- gotta love those floor wipers!

Re: Melissa W's Workout Log (Cue 1980s training montage)

Enjoyed a lovely Saturday morning workout UTB with Crossfit Central and about 70 or so people. This was a boot camp-esque workout with med ball clean pass, lifting form work with PVC pipe, run ladders, etc. Also got to meet James R. in person. Much fun!

Now that there is no longer a constant struggle with asthma, these cardio-heavy workouts have become much more enjoyable. It looks like the Spartan workouts they have given me for this week have LOTS of running, so that will be quite the challenge.

When I got home from my workout, I felt inspired to try going into a handstand against the wall. Couldn't quite kick up into one by myself, but I did get a headstand easily. Tried to push up into a handstand but it wasn't there. I think I could do a handstand right now if I had someone to help guide my feet in place -- it still feels very strange to invert my body like that and will take getting used to. But I think I am very close to attaining this goal.

Body assessment on Sunday 7/13: 29.2% body fat, down approx 5% since the beginning of the Spartan 300 nine weeks ago. My overall weight has stayed almost exactly the same so I must be putting on some heavy-a** muscle. Still have a ways to go, but I am thrilled at how my body is changing!

Was nice to meet you, too. That was a great UTB workout, and an awesome way to start the weekend!

Congrats on the great progress you're making! You're setting the standard pretty high!

Hey Melissa- Congrats on the decreased BF%! Great job! Nice work on trying the handstands too. Takes awhile to feel comfortable being inverted. Keep up the good work!

Congrats on the BF% reduction results! I'm sure you can tell the difference in the way clothes fit. I don't have a BF measuring device so that's how I judge it for myself.

Anyway, keep up the great work!!

Re: Melissa W's Workout Log (Cue 1980s training montage)

Thanks, James / Christin / Liana / Matt!

Matt - Yeah, all my pants are now getting really loose, especially in the waist. But I have decided to stick it out at least until the end of the Spartan 300 before I do any major clothes shopping, since I am not sure what size I will end up. And the mirror doesn't lie -- I am almost to the point of having visible ab definition again, like in my mid-twenties. Woohoo!

I couldn't figure out how to modify my last post, but I actually have lost about 6% body fat since May, not 5%. (I think I started at 35-point-something-or-other.) Sometimes I am not too good at the math.

Yesterday's WOD:
Deadlifts 10-8-6-4-2 (did 125 lbs)
KB swings 25-20-15-10-5 (did a rather light 1/2-pood, still working on my form so I pop my hips forward and open rather than up with the legs and arms)
7:22
We finished up with some fun med ball kneeing exercises and some reverse slams (if that is what they are called) Whew, good leg work!

I also experimented with my box jump -- I can now jump to a 20" box, at least one rep. Maybe my dreams of having a chest-high jump kick someday are possible! Of course, chest-high for me would be like being able to jump kick an 8 year old to the head. Maybe not very useful for self-defense as it's not often you are attacked by an 8-yr-old, but satisfying on a certain level anyway.

Ha ha, yeah, but then their parents won't let them come to your class anymore!

Hey, I just wandered over to your affiliate blog and wanted to let you know -- that Turkish GU / Burpee workout looks awesome! I'm going to have to pack up a duffel with some weight and try that one!
