Re: Big Doug’s Fat To Fitness Log

I wont Richard.

Got snowed into today with over a foot of snow. Gym was closed. So I did...

15 squats
10 push-ups
10 sit-ups with legs in air

for 6 rounds just under 10 minutes. Look forward to Monday.

Re: Big Doug’s Fat To Fitness Log

Monday Morning

My first attempt at hang-clean-squat

3-3-3-3-3-3-3

135x3
135x3
135x3
135x3
135x3
135x3
135x3

I have never done this exercise before and it was difficult. However, I just kept the weight low and focused on a good pull, clean to the delts, and a solid front squat. I also worked on thrusting my legs from the DL position to the squat position. By the 5 round it was becoming easy. The last 2 rounds were a joy.

I followed this by 3 sets of overhead squats using 65 pounds. Now that was hard but I did 3 reps per set - deep for practice (never done those before either).

Monday Night

5 rounds of BW bench
BW pull ups

With a quick warm up I did

Bench
315x5
315x5
315x4
315x4
315x3

Pull ups
1 with 2 assisted.
1 with 2 assisted.
1 with 2 assisted.
1 with 2 assisted.
1 with 2 assisted.

Then I did 3 sets of BW push ups with straps. Dang those really got me. The hand grips where on spindle making grip and stabilization hard.

Thanks Rob. I really am addicted already. I just can't believe how sore I stay all over. Its like all that 12 hour a day lifting the Globo way was worthless...lol

Tuesday March 11

"Diane"

21-15-9 reps of:
225 pound Deadlift
Handstand push-ups

My 300 pound body is not going to do handstands because I like my cervical's just the way they are.

So I scaled this workout (my first time) to:

10-10-10-10

DL 225x10 - followed by 135x10 BB shoulder press with locked legs for 4 rounds.

Time was around 15 minutes. My low back was still sore from the deep front squats and overhead squats I did yesterday. But I pushed through.

I never felt so good and yet hurt so bad at the same time.

My Paleo diet is going well to. I gave my self a restriction and reward system for drinking wine. I must lose 10 pounds before I can have a glass of wine (bottle). Then I must lose another 10 before my next glass, until I lose all 60 pounds.

Man...its time to lose some weight so I can drink again.

For time:
115 pound Thruster, 21 reps
15 ft Rope Climb, 12 ascents
115 pound Thruster, 15 reps
15 ft Rope Climb, 9 ascents
115 pound Thruster, 9 reps
15 ft Rope Climb, 6 ascents
I felt so good today. I weighed in at 301 pounds!

And my legs for the first time did not hurt (this is my second week of CF).

I scaled the workout because we do not have a rope at my gym. I used a Triceps rope that is 3-feet long, threw it over the top of a center support bar on the squat rack and pulled myself up - right and left of either side of cross section. I made sure that each round had a little different hand placement (one hand higher or lower).

10-10-10-10

135x10 thrusters
301x8 (BW) Triceps rope pull-ups (neck side to side) over 7-foot rack
135x10 thrusters
301x8 (BW) Triceps rope pull-ups (neck side to side) over 7-foot rack
135x10 thrusters
301x8 (BW) Triceps rope pull-ups (neck side to side) over 7-foot rack
135x10 thrusters
301x8 (BW) Triceps rope pull-ups (neck side to side) over 7-foot rack

I followed these rounds with 3 overhead squats for practice (3 reps at 65 pounds x 3 sets).

Did workout in 11:20 and went home and ate “eye of round roast” (herbes de province) with fresh steamed broccoli with some parmesan sprinkled on top.

I just love CF now that my intrinsic muscles are getting used to the CF WOD’s.

Re: Big Doug’s Fat To Fitness Log

Keep it up Doug! I noticed you said your diet was "good". What exactly do you model your diet after? Have you read about paleo and zone? My body fat is vanishing daily on a paleo(ish) diet and intense crossfit WOD sessions...Anyway enjoy reading your log, love the enthusiasm...

Greg,

It is like a Atkins/Paleo type diet. Meat and dark green vegetables. Kombucha tea, some cheese, some nuts.

Eggs, lots of organic eggs.

Algae

Ohhh and some olives from time to time.

Man thats great Greg!

I hope to start loosing 2.5 pounds a week instead of 1 pound a week. I really am tough on myself not to eat anything bad. All organic and fresh.

Re: Big Doug’s Fat To Fitness Log

Well I'm sure you're going to lose those 2.5 pounds with the "Michael" WOD ^^

Good job on Tommy V, you even scaled the weight up for the thrusters without even mentionning it, that's real !

I'm attacking it tomorrow, I hope my towel will remain in one piece.

Get some !

Re: Big Doug’s Fat To Fitness Log

Nice work Doug, I'm doing Tommy V tonight myself, with far fewer than properly subbed rope pullups ... with assistance, heh. Not sure whether I'll be doing 115 or 95 on the thrusters yet. Anyways, I believe I read from Dr. Barry Sears that its physically impossible to lose more than 1.5#s of fat a week, all other weight loss is muscle or water. Can anyone else back me up on this? My memory is kinda crap, heh.
