Post Your Average Day in the Zone
Hey all,
I have flipped through some of the zone diet books, and really want to get going on it, or at least some variation thereof. But I think I may learn best by seeing what you all are doing on an average day. Furthermore, some of the zone books make it overly complicated in my opinion. If you compare the articles in the CFJ and posts on the message board to Barry Sears books, CrossFit has presented the zone in a much more accessible way in my opinion. Also, the zone diet books have recipes in them that are just WAY to much for me being a young 20 something with little time and money. I would imagine some of you are also busy, and cater your zone accordingly, and have found an approach that works for you. So if some of you don't mind, would you post your "day in the zone" or at least some of the foods you use more frequently so that I could just get some ideas from those who are tried and true. Thanks |

Re: Post Your Average Day in the Zone
hmmm I don't really do the zone anymore, i guess more like zone with fat replacing some carbs, but here is what I will be eating for today
1c 0%greek yogurt, 1c (or more) berries, 1/4c each shredded coconut and sliced almonds big salad (lettuce, tomatoe, cucumber, carrots) with 1 can tuna, 1/4c sunflower seeds ground beef (4-6oz), brocolli and whatever other veggies I find in the freezer, half a grapefruit, nut butter/nuts dark chocolate maybe (85% or higher) I usually have another snack in the day, peice of meat or 2 whole eggs with cut up veggies or something, but I was badly prepared this morning (just back from vacation, and you don't want to know about a typical day of eating there lol) |

I don't think you need to bump something that is already on the first page

Re: Post Your Average Day in the Zone
Alex - just K.I.S.S. Being a single 20-something, head over to the Giant or Harris Teeter and pick up the Tyson's single serving boneless skinless chickent breast, several bags of frozen veggies, apples, oranges, berries, cans of tuna and salmon, enough eggs to feed a family of five, some reduced fat cheese and some almonds. Oh, and some lettuce, balsamic, and evoo. I also like to buy nitrate-free deli meat that I kinda shred up and use in my salads or in roll-ups/wraps with low-carb tortillas.
The key is to go hardcore for two weeks, weighing and measuring everything. Keep it all super duper simple. Once you've got the portions down, then start getting fancy. Also, tupperware is a single person's BFF. 2 eggs (microwaved), 1 slice of cheese, coffee, pear & 1 cup of strawberries 3 cups of romaine, 3 oz of ham, 1/2 cup of strawberries sliced, 1 apple, 1 tblspn of all-natural Smith & Wollensky dressing 8g fat stringcheese & 1.5 cups of sugar snap peas (on a decadent day I have and ounce of ham and then 1/2 a slice of whole grain bread with a smidge of natural PB) 3 blocks of chicken, and 3 blocks of whatever veggies I have cooked in a evoo The last snack is always dessert oriented: 4 oz wine and stringcheese = Heaven. Or, instead of wine, organic chocolate (1/2 an ounce) I do 11 blocks |

Re: Post Your Average Day in the Zone
This is if my house is stocked. I'm currently taking zone proportions, deleting a carb block and adding 3 extra fat blocks.
Breakfast 300ml whole milk 2.5 blocks of whey Tangerine Few grapes 3 caps fish oil Lunch Salmon fillet A pile of broccoli Apple Snack 2 blocks of deli chicken Few grapes 1.5 tablespoons of Hazelnut or Walnut oil 3 caps fish oil Dinner Steak or roast chicken (5 blocks worth) Half a plate of veg 1 Orange Tablespoon of nut oil Thats pretty typical. I'm sticking to 15 blocks of protein a day and cutting off eating at 6:30pm. |

My dinner is going to be a cheat meal because it's my mother's birthday and I'm making her a linguine pasta dinner with Bertucci's-style rolls and carrot cake at the end. *shrug* But otherwise that day should be pretty typical. Jay Cohen and a few others also have links to what they eat daily. |
