Re: Post Your Average Day in the Zone
Breakfast
Starbucks Venti coffee with half and half and cane sugar (So sue me!) 4 slices of natural deli ham couple hand-fulls of mixed nuts (mostly walnuts) 1/2 cup of black berries, blue berries and strawberries Lunch Huge spinach salad with lots of different colored peppers, tomatoes, 2 cups of raw broccoli, 4 slices of natural turkey, less than 1/4 cup of crumbled blue cheese and lots of olive oil and balsamic vinegar for dressing Snack One medium to large sized apple with an a**load of natural peanut butter (tried almond butter the other day... and it was disgusting). Dinner Some type of protein, i.e. fish, chicken or meat/beef and lots and lots of vegetables usually with olive oil. At all meals I have water to drink except for tonight and tomorrow when I plan to consume an excessive amount of beer and wine. ![]() |

Re: Post Your Average Day in the Zone
What I am noticing with these responses is that most people really don't get too fancy with a good diet. This is what I was saying in my original post, about how the Zone books have recipes and analysis that make it seem like more than it is. Actually, I am probably currently eating somewhere close to the way some of you are I just need to cut the sugar and get rid of the carbs.
PS - I know some of these aren't strict zoners, but just "good clean eaters" |

Re: Post Your Average Day in the Zone
alex-
you're right. i read one of the books and saw the recipes. they seemed a bit time consuming and with an 8mo old i don't always have the time to cook a meal with tons of measuring. and at times, paying that much attention to detail while running on a couple hours of sleep doesn't work. ![]() i keep it simple. i just pick from the favorable list. i do a handful of different meals and change it up every time i go grocery shopping. although liquid meals aren't the best, i do this when i'm on the go... blender meal...3 blocker 1c strawberries (1 carb) 1/4c non fat, plain cottage cheese (1 protein/1 carb) 1/2c non fat, plain yogurt (1 protein/1 carb) 9 almonds (3 fat) 1c 2% milk (1 protein) the sweeter the strawberries, the better it tastes. you could use non fat vanilla yogurt but you add sugar there. i sometimes opt for brown cow vanilla yogurt but i try not to. journal 21 (i think) has some good, simple examples. it's a free one too. ![]() |

Re: Post Your Average Day in the Zone
Typical day: 12 blocks
4 BL breakfast: 6 fl oz coconut milk 1.5 scoops chocolate whey protein powder 1.5 c frozen cherries 1 TBS raw cocoa powder +(on the side) 1.25 c broccoli w/ balsamic vinegar Snack 1.5 oz smoked salmon 1/2 apple 3 cashews Lunch (3 bl) 2.5 c broccoli 1 c fake chicken (yeah I know, I'm a veg) 3 tbs avocado 1.5 oz salmon vinegar Snack 1/4 c cottage cheese 1/2 apple 1 tsp almond butter Dinner (3 blocks) 1 large salad 1 veggie burger (has 4 blocks of fat) balsamic vinegar .25 c cottage cheese 1 apple That's a typical day, although not every day. I alternate breakfasts between 3 standard ones (either 3 or 4 blocks depending on my mood/schedule for the day). Didn't do that today -- had some dark chocolate as part of lunch, and had tofu, roasted veggies, salmon, and greek salad for dinner. |
