It used to happen to me alot also and I read in an article that a cold shower before bed helps you sleep and i've never turned back since. Save the warm shower for the morning since the hot water wake up the body.

I take a 3 mg melatonin right before lights out if I think getting to sleep is going to be delayed for any reason.

I also always work out at night if its a workday but normally do so before eating my last meal rather than after.
