Stationary Bike for CFE WODs

I've been doing my hybrid Wendler 5/3/1 and CrossFit Endurance program (w/f/s) for a while now and am enjoying it immensely. I already swim twice a week and run twice a week via the program recommendations and I'd like to add biking in to prep for a Sprint Triathlon next year. I'll be buying a nice entry level bike when I go on a four day pass later this month but in the mean time I'm looking into using a stationary bike at the base gym until I get my bike in two weeks or so. I was wondering if this is a viable option or should I just stick with the running and swimming until I get my bike two weeks from now?

Re: Stationary Bike for CFE WODs

Definitely viable. Just look at today's CFE WOD:

3+ Hours After CFE Strength & Conditioning WOD
Chose ONE of The Following Sports:

Complete: 20:10 x 8 rounds, 20 seconds on 10 seconds off, all out efforts!
Swim: Use pool or open water

Bike: Use a Monarch ERG, stationary bike with wattage tool or something similar that can hold a load of 200+ watts

Run: Use a treadmill, set at 12% grade at 0-30 sec slower pace per mile than best 5k pace. Do not reduce the speed!

Thanks. I was referring to other WODs that might not specify if stationary biking is acceptable in lieu of actual biking when there is no bike available.

I'm rehabbing right now from a really painful achilles tendon, and I'm training for a 50k using CFE. I've begun using the stationary bike as a supplement until I'm better. So far it's gone well and I'd recommend it.

Do you have access to a "spinning" bike anywhere on base? I use one when I am out away from home and find that it is a much better analog for real riding and may provide you with a little more confidence when you transition.

Re: Stationary Bike for CFE WODs

Thom - I haven't seen any but if I find some I sure as heck will use them vice the regular old exercise bikes. I'm certain there are some given that there are spinning classes held on the base.

Ben - Thanks for the recommendation.

I've got the time trial T10 for tomorrow so I think I'll do the either the short course (10 miles) or the long course (18 miles) on the stationary bike.
