I've been trying to start the zone/paleo diet, and I have been having trouble getting enough carbs (like most people, it seems). I really like steamed baby peas, and they are high in carbs, so I thought they would be a perfect cornerstone of my new diet.

But then I saw in Crossfit Journal #21, peas are listed as an "unfavorable" source of carbohydrates, which made me sad. Anyway, I assume that peas are not as bad as, say, french fries, but how bad are they? Should I avoid making steamed baby peas a cornerstone of my diet? And if so, why (I assume it has something to do with the type of carbohydrates in peas...)

Personal I hate Peas so I think it's great that I don't have to eat them any more.

Travis - I've been on the Zone diet for about a month and I've found that eating the carbs listed as "unfavorable" is ok - though not preferred - but be very sure about your quantities. I eat peas once a week or so because my wife loves them and they seem to wind up in my food somehow.

I think the main issue is that peas are easy to over do. It is amazing how carb dense beans/legumes are.

Thanks for the input! If the big problem with peas is that it is easy to eat too many, I'll be sure to measure my quantities by grams. I should be OK then, right? I hope so, because peas taste pleasant (in my opinion, at least) and they are very easy to make and store.
