Push Up & Pull-Up Records

In the Faces in the Crowd section of the latest Sport's Illustrated, there is a 30 year old guy who just broke Jack LaLanne's 1956 record for push-ups. He did 1000 push-ups in sets of 25 in 20 minutes and 50 seconds (not sure what LaLanne's record was). In 2004, he set a record by doing 507 pull-ups in one hour.

That is a lot of push-ups. I think LaLanne did 1000 in 23 mins.

Re: Push Up & Pull-Up Records

Pull-ups could be controversial. If a guy kips a lot and is world-class at pull-ups, I'm willing to bet he can get more than 507 in 1 hour. I mean, that is just 8.45 pull-ups per minute. I know it's a ton, but still, I can see some guys doing more if they can kip the heck out of the pullups

Not sure of the details of the pull-up record, but I'm willing to bet that kipping is not allowed.

ah kipping, or as I like to call it, pull-up wasting

That is one hell of a record though, 8.45/min for an entire hour.

He's probably a pretty strong guy. He was an All-Ivy League wrestler for Princeton in 1998.
