All,

I started a new chat channel on the Freenode IRC network called #crossfit for chatting realtime with other community members. For info on joining up, check out How to use Freenode IRC (link safe for work/family).

I use IRC/instant messaging extensively for work so I figured what better way to goof off at work than chatting with CFers. Come on by and say "Hi"!

Was thinking of this myself. See you in the channel.

Cool Mike. My nickname is "rrang". This is an old retired nickname from a virtual buddy of mine. I'm on there pretty much all the time during the week.

Sigs,

I usually use realtime chats to to get to know people on a slightly more personal level, as the information flow is more like natural conversation.

For those who aren't quite sure, if your running windows, you'll need MIRC. If your running macintosh, I would suggest IRCLE & if your running Linux, I believe you'll be looking for XCHAT. All are programs for access to IRC.
For those of you running Instant messenger programs like yahoo or MSN Messenger, there is an interface for IRC as well.
As James may/may not have mentioned, Freenode is very well policed. You would be getting any private messages etc

Hey folks,
I am Govannon from the IRC.
I would recommend "X-Chat 2"http://www.silverex.org/news/ for Windows users.
It is totally free. Not like MIRC, which is shareware I think.

Dan,
Your right, mIRC is shareware. Thought XChat was strictly for Linux.

Re: #crossfit on freenode IRC

Hey Don, that must have been you as "quaal". I lurk on that channel and no one ever visits And no, it hasn't taken off as expected. Maybe bumping this thread will get the new folks to try it out...
