This is the same reason cross regional comparisons are useful but not an end all be all. Does anyone doubt that Rich would've gone 0.7 seconds faster if he'd be in the last heat?
Great idea for next year!

I still think he wins it all and after tonight, it wouldn't surprise me if he was in 1st place. Going into the final day, if Rich is in 1st, it could be as they say - "a wrap."

What you say here is the problem that Rich is having. He paces better than anyone else in games history, which is why he so often looks the most fresh and endures into the final day. He can pace and look left and right when he is in the top heat because the guys he needs to worry about (either that he needs to catch up to or that he needs to fight off) are right next to him. If the closest guy to challenge his 1st place finish is 4 lanes over, he will game it - as he has ALWAYS done.

The problem now is that his placing has him in the 2nd to last heat often. He paces those guys and is not aware of the those he cannot see. Its throwin' him off his game.

Why can he still win? He isn't doing poorly, he is doing outstanding. We are just seeing how good everyone else is, how close the competition is and we are used to seeing him dominate - as though the games was always all about 2nd place and beyond. 1st through 5th place is separated by 13 points...its anyone's game.

Rich is 13 points behind Fraser. Those five points in OHS are huge now. 1 pound there and 1 more muscleup and he's probably in first overall.

yeah i am willing to bet that he is not happy about going for that 400lbs now. but at least the clean ladder didn't hurt him, if anything it worked in his favor now that he is close to the top and some of the other guys fell back.

i still think that Fraser is taking the whole thing and i said that even before the games.

Despite Maddox getting 'robbed' at the end, how good was that clean ladder race!!!

That has to go down as one of the best Games event ever!

How about at ladder race with a complex. 2 DL, 2 cleans, 1 shoulder to overhead?

Seems like some of the athletes are bringing all 4 sleds right to the bags, while others are stacking them up, meaning less distance to pull. Doesn't seem consistent.

Re: 2014 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread

in this 3rd women's heat -- looks like someone is stacking the already pulled sleds out of the way of the one being pulled? they look really tidy and didn't get in the way.

which sucks for the previous heats
