Thumbs up New kid on the block

Hello Everyone,

I'm new. I just started this Wednesday. So far I love it! I'm having a hard time finding a place to do some of this stuff. Anyone in the West Chester, Pa surrounding area?? Thanks,

Jenny B

Re: New kid on the block

I'm about as far away from you as I can get in the continental U.S., but I feel your pain. I either do my workouts at the track field for my daughter's school, or go to the local globo gym (If you haven't seen the movie 'Dodgeball', that's a generic term for any run-of-the-mill gym like Golds, LA Fitness, 24 Hr Fitness etc.) They don't have everything I need, but they have enough that I can usually at least find a good substitute. The hardest thing for me is staying consistent and motivated, and one of the things that helps me the most on that is the people here on the boards! I keep a workout log in that section of the forums to keep myself honest, and talk a lot to pretty much anyone who will listen!

That being said, you're in a fairly populous area, so odds are there is a Crossfit facility near you. Even if you can't afford to become a member, I would recommend at least doing some introductory classes to get instruction on the exercises you're not familiar with, especially the Olympic lifts. There's a link on the main page for affiliates, that's where I'd start my search. You can also browse/post in the 'In search of crossfitters' forum down under community.

Finally,

Re: New kid on the block

Haha, Globogym, nice. I'm really familiar with the lifts, it's just that not a lot of places have that equipment. I can use regular bars and weights, but can't drop them like you can olympic weights, ya know? I've actually been going to a playground for some of the other stuff . Thanks for the replies Krist and Stephen!! Everybody said that the message board is a great place with great people!

Re: New kid on the block

I am aware, Tim, but thanks. I actually went through the intro classes at CF Murrieta to learn the moves (especially the Oly lifts), but I'm not in a financial position to fully join just yet. I can, however, afford a $15/month globo gym membership.

I do intend to join an affiliate full-time once I'm done paying for some things (my ex's Suburban, for starters), but meanwhile I'm making good progress at the globo.

Re: New kid on the block

Welcome Jenny Always nice to see another girl around 'Course there are lots of us around here.

Two fun threads that are worth checking out is the 'Girl Power' Thread and the 'Fit Chicks Fitness Challenge' thread

Starting a fitness log is also a good way to stay motivated. There are lots of great people who will stop by and offer encouragement.

Good luck!
