Another site I post on has had a series of "Gym Idiots" threads (each thread is locked after 1,000 posts). I believe we're on our 7th or 8th now.

Also, I went to a gym the other day. The 7-foot Olympic bars there had hexagonal centers. It was weird. Didn't feel good for deadlifts, so I pilfered one from a decline bench to use.
Hexagonal center? What!? Can't imagine trying to do anything with that that would feel comfortable.

My wife's gym has a few of those, I think they actually refer to them as "the deadlifting bars".

Wait, do you mean the barbell shaft was hexagonal, or that it was a trap bar, where you stand in the middle of a hexagon to deadlift? Trap bars are supposed to allow for different loading in a deadlift since you're in the middle of the bar yourself instead of the weight being in front of you. I still don't like them much, because they feel weird

I'm talking about the shaft. The shaft felt strange in my hands when I gripped it.

Ok, that's just weird then. I wonder what the practical application for that would be? It would hurt to DL or do any kind of Oly with the grinding against your shins, and I'd hate to have that digging into my palms when I'm doing a pressing movement.

Yeah Jeff, I decided to not bite.

Apparently you don't have that modicum of respectability like I do.

Wow, I must be losing my touch here to not have picked up on that one. Oops.

Re: Seen at the globo yesterday

I finally saw it in my university gym today: a 'personal trainer' having a trainee do bicep curls on a Bosu!
